The study area is the Lancaster District. Lancaster District has a population of approximately 134,000. The main settlements are the historic city of Lancaster, the coastal towns of Morecambe and Heysham and the market town of Carnforth. In developing a Transport Strategy for Lancaster and Morecambe, it is important to remember that the District is predominantly rural, with large villages and scattered small settlements.
